Kenyans have offered mixed reactions following Shujaa 7s early exit from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The national rugby team bowed out of the competition after failing to win any of their Group C matches. The side suffered a narrow 14-19 defeat in the hands of the USA in their opening match before following up the disappointing result with another loss against South Africa on Monday, July 26. The two frustrating results meant Kenya needed to salvage a favourable result against Ireland in their final pool fixture on the morning of Tuesday, July 27. However, unfortunately, the Innocent Simiyu-tutored side went on to falter against Ireland. TUKO.co.ke reported Kenya nearly sprung a comeback after going down 0-12 in the first half, but their efforts were futile as they went on to lose 7-12. The result meant the side were effectively out of the tournament, with South Africa, who topped the pool on the first day qualifying for the next round alongside the USA. Kenya’s early exit from the competition left fans divided, with some calling for radical changes in the team as others sent the team messages of goodwill.
